2005-06 Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Music

Dr. Standley is the 2005-06 Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Music, is the Ella Scoble Opperman Professor of Music Therapy, is Director of the Music Therapy program and teaches in the areas of music therapy principles and procedures and the use of music in medical treatment and counseling. She is editor of The Journal of Music Therapy and is widely published. Her primary area of research is in the use of music in the care and development of premature infants.

Dr. Standley has held numerous positions in national music therapy organizations and has broad experience in clinical music therapy and health services administration. She is author of Music Techniques in Therapy, Counseling and Special Education, and co-editor of Research in Music Therapy: A Tradition of Excellence. In 1996, she received the Award of Merit from the National Association for Music Therapy and, in 1999, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Music Therapy Association.

Dr. Standley received the bachelor's and master's degrees in music therapy and the Ph.D. degree in Habilitative Sciences from FSU. She was appointed to the Florida State University faculty in 1976.
